You’ve got a great point. I have the same visceral reaction to the Marge character as an adult mother. But I still enjoy the show. I’m not a die hard fan, but I don’t ban the show either.

In fairness, if I were an overweight n’er do well drowning my shredded self esteem in a bottle just to face the day I’d have the same unpleasant visceral reaction to the Homer character.

So it’s not just about feminism. It’s about frustration and profound sadness at these stereotype roles constantly being shoved in our faces when we all know that as a society we should be doing so much better by now.

It’s how a trope gains success and then everything is like that, the landscape all looks the same because it gets copied so much. It’s not good for us, it becomes propaganda-like.

It’s how tropes can be funny and enjoyed without being lionized by the particular group who benefits, usually with the accompanying level of gaslighting that clusters around any criticism or comment about it.

It’s about the fatigue of the merry-go-round of opinion.
