You're reaching. Another psychological survival mechanism is not alienating oneself from their group. That's why peer pressure is so hard to go against.

So even conservative brains only function from the amygdala (I'm not buying that either btw), you'd still have two survival mechanisms at play. There's no way to determine which is the strongest influence or if either one is that much of an influence in the first place

I object to this line of reasoning because it absolves them of responsibility and culpability. It gives them an excuse, cover from accountability for their actions, and an easy out to continue with this infantile behavior on other matters, like climate change.

It's time to grow up. It's past time.
