You're ignoring something. Qhen someone says something is getting worse, that may not mean quantity.

It could mean severity.

Or it could be a broad combination.

The lack of horror is getting worse. The public has become desensitized to rape culture.

The severity and callousness of attacks has become worse. 10 years of being drugged and farmed out to rapists by your husband.
