You’re female. You’re a new(ish) mother. You look “nice", you know… approachable. You’re describing yourself as actively engaged with your kid, not your nose stuck in your phone so “there’s hope for you”. As your neighbor, he’s probably aware that you’re a liberal and EVERYONE KNOWS how “librals ruin kids. Just spoil them”.

It’s mostly being a woman and a new(ish) mom thing.

Don’t worry, once your child gets to be around 10ish and their personality is set all these people won’t try to help you anymore. They’ll just talk trash about you and your kid behind your back. They’ll be dismissive and derisive to your face. They most popular comment will be “no wonder…(insert judge nonsense here)”
