You're caught up on myths about manhood.

First off, my first statement is based on the fact that once women became property to establish inheritance laws for property, sex became less about choice for women. You had little to no choice.

Rape is a well known weapon of war.

I'm not saying men always had choice in some of these circumstances either. In many culturee arranged marriages are still a thing and come about from payriarchal agreements between family heads.

But at least the young men can cheat with less consequences. The woman is just stuck.

Prior to agriculture though, women did hunt and protect the tribe. They were probably less likely to become part of an invasion or attack on another tribe, but you don't want to leave your group completely exposed either. You'll leave older men, younger unseasoned warriors, and women warriors at home to protect the tribe while the war party is away.

But if youre being attacked, anyone who is good with a weapon and does not have chilsren whonare still at the clinging age will fight or die. Women who are not good with a weapon will form a protective barrier around the children, knives drawn. They'll be the last line of defense. That's still fighting, it's just defensively.

New archiological evidence keeps proving prehistoric women did not sit around the cave waiting on men to bring home some bacon.

Man as hunter is a myth. Always has been. It doesn't even make sense and never has. Man as hunter is about male ego.
