You're assuming most single mothers weren't partners when their child was born.

This isn't true.

The vast majority of single mothers started their motherhood years inside wedlock.

They did not become single mothers by irresponsibility or accidentally.

They found themselves that way because the man they had a child with didn't pan out for one reason or another.
