You're absolutely making sense. We give power and respect to certain things. For most of history, the written word was predominantly produced by the learned and often went through rigorous editing and peer review processes. It was expensive so it has to be good enough and important enough that people would want to invest in material and own it over other things. Over time, we learned to give an auntie stick credence to the written word as having a level of expertise.

Cheaper, easier publishing and then the internet changes all that but our brains haven't caught up. If it's written, we have a tendency to give it the same weight as something that comes out of an encyclopedia.

We haven't outgrown that behavior. Younger people who grew up with social media do much better on this front usually. That's encouraging.
