You should delete this article so the mother of that poor girl doesn’t have to read it.

It’s not helpful to anyone, except maybe as an example of what not to do. It’s cold, cruel, and cowardly.

In my family, we are not partyers, very few of us drink regularly, some not at all. This culture you’re perpetuating is not something that should be defended or held valuable. It kills. Why would you defend that?

There is a world of difference between having a drink or two with friends at a bar and going on a bender. Between going to a party and being a constant partyer every weekend. Between behaving like a responsible, accountable adult and being irresponsible and shifting blame.

As someone who has lost numerous family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues to people like you and your son, how dare you. How dare you casually gloss over the fact that he was driving drunk. How dare you criticize that girl’s mother for her grief. It takes longer when you can’t just raise a glass to drown it out. How dare you ignore accountability. How dare you rub her nose in your apathy and lack of empathy by writing and posting this piece in a public space. Have you no shame?

YOUR SON KILLED HER ONLY CHILD

I’m sure he wasn’t a monster. I’m sure you miss him and grieve for him. You should. You should also have some space to grieve for Danielle. She shouldn’t be an afterthought or an inconvenience to you or your family. And that’s how you’re treating her, like the tragedy of her death is an inconvenience to how you choose to remember your son.

You should not be pretending he was a saint. He messed up. It got someone killed. He stole her life. You need to deal with and process that too instead of being such a coward that you hurl false accusations at her mother about “hate". It’s disgusting.

Your son killed her child. If he had lived, he would likely be facing criminal charges.

He killed someone. That’s a grief in and of itself. You’re not dealing with it. You need to.
