You forgot about the bit where they then expect us to take care of them in their dotage, also for free while they horde their wealth till the bitter end.
My aunt an uncle were teachers of the boomer era. They also worked during the summer. She taught at a trade school, so there was no summer break. He taught high school freshman biology and painted houses during the summer. I have a 2nd cousin who did missionary work during the summer, unpaid.
Very few of my teachers, who were boomers, were living it up during the summer. Most had summer jobs, even then, or were doing unpaid, voluntary work. I knew of a few who would sign up for research projects and be thrilled if they got a $25/month stipend to offset food costs.
Yet, I have heard this trope coming out of boomer mouths my whole life along with, "People who go into teaching are students who couldn't cut it in a real major". Statements which make the whole thing even more bizarre. They've rewritten the history and lives of their own age cohort as they gaslight GenX, Millenia, and Zoomer teachers.
Good article.
