Yes. This is overshoot. As you may recall, my educational training was in biology, specifically wildlife science, of which ecology is prominent.
What were seeing is no different than the well known snowshoe hare - lynx cycle of boom and crash where one follows the other. We are at peak oil, so peak of the curve. You're not wrong to point out the nuance of different populations around the globe but we are a global society now and globally the population is still rising so I'm not wrong either.
It won't happen the same everywhere at once. It never does. But it will happen. It is too late now. It was probably too late before I was born and I'm in my 50s now.
I'm really glad young people today can talk about it. For those who were starting to be aware when I was your age, you quickly got shouted down and labeled a hysteric. It wasn't until Jared Diamond came out with Collapse that that started to change.
Contrary to what seems like common sense though, having more children won't help. That aging population cannot be sustained (I'm saying that as a member of that aging population). Less children is what's needed. Not more. That's the only way forward now. Softening the thuds. John Michael Greer has written about this. Alan Urban here on Medium is someone who weites to the layperson about Collapse.
