Years ago I was listening to the radio and the DJ was talking about her husband having shingles and how fatigued she was with his incessant complaining about it. She was saying how much she loved him and how much she realized he was legitimately suffering but she just couldn’t hear about it anymore. He had exhausted her with his complaining. She spoke of how incredibly guilty she felt for just not caring any more. Then she spins it around to kudos and respects to nurses, doctors, and people in the caretaking industry of the chronically ill. She said one of the most profound things I’d heard at that point, it takes a special kind of someone to not break under the strain of chronic whiners and complainers, most of us are just not wired for it. We can’t do empathy and sympathy indefinitely. We just can’t, we crash.
I’ve found this insight to be very true.
The internet never gets tired of hearing the moanings of complainers. You can put it out there and not fatigue your family and friends until you get tired enough of complaining to make needed changes or luck lands in your lap enough to make things better for you.
For the rest of us on the internet, that mute button is FREAKING AWESOME!
Isn’t it?
No guilt? BONUS!
