Yeah, that's not as innocuous as it's often presented either.
You literally cannot hate the sin without hating (as an action) the sinner. Especially when the belief and religious doctrine you live by and swear is the literal truth calls for you to harm said sinner and that if you don't you will share hell with them. That's the case with many of these fundamentalists.
You cannot take a moral stand based on religion against homosexuality without hating homosexuals. Whether that emotional hate ends up in the hate actions of conversion therapy, ostracization, voting for discriminatory laws, exclusion, or just general disgust and mistreatment (snubbing) when you meet these people in public, it's clear you are not hating the sin and loving the sinner.
That's a smoke screen. Mental gymnastics designed to fancy yourself still in line with the trachings of Jesus Christ all while being complicit in a religious movement that is targeting LGBTQ for genocide. Actively.
I didn't even bring up the fact that if you attend a church and tithe, more than likely some of those funds are going toward programs that actively harm gays and theys because churches share finances across large swaths of the organizations. Companies that sell Christian trinkets and such, Christian publishing companies, etc all contribute to active harmful actions. And it's not even hidden that well.
Sorry. But your friend is willfully turning a blind eye and excusing his participation in a movement advocating for genocide by anti-LGBTWQ pogram .
