Yeah, nobody's going back to their respective corners on this one.
We've been trying since Columbine to change the laws.
Saying change the laws is tone deaf in this situation. Our ability to do so has been hijacked and a third of the population are enthralled to a wannabe demagogue. We do not have the government the vast majority of the people want.
We're continuing to lose any ability to make meaningful change.
Harping on and on about the law is ignoring the fact that the judge threw out evidence, behaved questionably, etc. Plus, Republican efforts to load the bench with federalist conservatives means that people no longer trust the justice system to be fair. Hence, the riots, including the one at the capitol.
Without meaningful trust, you will not have willing consent of the governed.
This trial may or may not be the match that kicks the bloodletting off, probably not, but unless the government and the media stop inciting division and acting on the whims of sociopaths and corporations, rebuild trust, and promote fairness, it's coming. Sooner or later.
