Yeah, it was after WWII. Europe was so devastated that women I'm several countries pursued enfranchisement in both politics and economy so that if the world devolved into war again, at least they would have a say.

I can't remember when exactly the strike happened. The one in Iceland wasn't the only one but their strike literally shut the country down, as I recall.
