Yeah. He could have secured some water, invested in a seed bank of heirloom varieties and a tool library, bought some land and started growing a food forest, secured some power sources, etc.

The possibilities are endless.

And then the other guy came to steal it all away for himself too, rather than reallocating horded resources.

Both these guys had a chance to be a hero to their community, a real leader, a quality man.

Instead, they both made choices that harmed others, even outside the onvilus woman who was murdered.
