Yeah, but that's not proofs of a problem with the child or the parents.
Again, we all know how averages work. If the average age is 3 1/2 to 4, then there will be some kids take longer. Maybe it's because of some problems., maybe it's because of trauma, maybe it is bad parenting, or maybe the kid is just naturally delayed a bit and will catch up just fine.
The problem with kids showing up to kindergarten not being potty trained is not with the child or with thr parents.
It's that they shouldn't be placed in kindergarten just because they have turned 5.
They may be better off skipping kindergarten and starting first grade the next year. Give them a chance to catch up to the averages without makibg some moral assessment that, frankly, is fucked up.
I think on some states kindergarten is a requirement and I don't know about very many other countries, but in my state you're not required to start children in school until the age of 7 and you aren't required to go to kindergarten.
Part of the reason why is that once upon a time, before we all lost our damn minds making every little thing a freaking competition, the state educational system realized how averages worked and that that meant some kids wouldn't be ready for school at 5. So they wrote some leeway into the law, all practical like.
So the real question here is why are we shaming parents and kids like this and pressuring them to start their kids at school before they're ready? Why'd we lose our sense and why do some of need to bash and moralize those who land on the outside tail ends of the bell curve as though they are a personal failure and a waste of air?
