Yankee bigotry against southerners. Shelters absolutely perform spays and neuters if they can get funding.

There are no kill shelters. There's also a decent foster program. I know. I used to foster animals until they found their forever home when I lived in Alabama.

Veterinarians will participate in spay and neuter programs several times a year for the poor; there are catch, sterilize, and release programs for dumpster cats in cities as well. The Veterinary school at Auburn will do spays and neuters at cost or for free when they can get grants. I worked there as a student. One of my responsibilities was taking care of and rehabilitating abandoned or seized pets and livestock until they found a new home.

There are people all over the country who do the best they can for animals with the resources they have and others who abuse and neglect animals without a single thought.

A friend of mine from Texas regularly fostered dogs nearing end of natural life until he himself died. Know how many trips he made to Illinois to save these dogs from being put down because they got old? Dozens.

Another friend of mine rehabilitates dogs, mostly pit bulls that have been used for dog fighting. He's partnered up with people/organizations in several states, including Illinois. He's been doing this at his own expense for nearly 20 years. He lives in Alabama by the way.

I even know a guy who fostered a bear cub after some jackass from up north poached off season and killed it's mother. That cub is on a preserve out west somewhere now.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about and the only "attitude" problem here is yours, and your bias.
