Wow. That’s incredible — I can relate. When I lived back east, I was gob smacked at how many people (including a history teacher recently graduated) didn’t know who Wyatt Earp was, or why the movie was called Tombstone.
Now that I live in Arizona, I wish I could say how surprised I was to find that people think Davy Crockett was a children’s song (if they’ve heard the name at all) that got turned into a ridiculous Disney movie not based on the “real west" with no idea that he was a US Representative for the state of Tennessee or that he died defending the Alamo during the Texas Revolution.
I’m no history expert, but that’s just stuff tangential to historical movies that the slightest bit of curiosity and a very cursory Google search ought to clear up quick. Stuff that you’d have to have lived under a rock not to have been exposed to.
Or maybe I’m just a big nerd. At any rate, kinda makes you go 😲 followed by 😬 and a near impossible attempt not to 🙄.
