Dating dynamics have changed since then. Is your mom a boomer or an early Gen Xer? You're a Millennial, right? You're the first generation to get to date and partner outside a forced situation because of women being disenfranchised. Your mom did not have that luxury or that gift. Did your mom even have the right to her own bank account or access to financial institutions her whole life? Because I haven't. I was 3 when the Equal Credit Opportunity Act was passed. For practical purposes, I've never had a problem, but it's seems easy to forget that happened in my lifetime. My daughter is Gen Z, so I'm guessing for your mom, most likely, things were radically different for her.
