Why do you say that? I didn't say they weren't still dangerous and wouldn't kill you.

I'm talking about the nature of a black bear vs the nature of a grizzly bear.

A St. Bernard is not as vicious or aggressive as a pit bull or a Rottweiler.

But a St Bernard can kill you as easily as a pit bull or Rottweiler, even though it's nature is much more gentle and much less naturally aggressive.

It's just much less likely to. That's not an exact comparison, because dogs are domesticated and used to living amongst humans and bears are still wild animals. Hopefully, you will take my point and not allow yourself to get so bogged down in Wikipedia statistics that you stand on an irrational argument.

I know the stats. I also know that there are far more black bears than grizzlies or Kodiak brown bears, black bear country isnmore heavily populated by people, there are far more encounters with black bears, and black bears are still reticent but not as avoidant of humans as grizzlies.

Statistics point to trends and they're useful tools, but they don't ever tell the whole story.
