While I agree with the sentiment, Homo neanderthalensis males were by most accounts far more evolved and emotionally literate than you give them credit for. Arguably, on that front they were far more advanced than many modern day Homo sapien males.

We should also note that this extreme behavior coming from men, is cultural, it is not a product of evolution. It's an extreme expression of a warped ideology. The "man-box" is as bizarre as foot binding or elongating the skulls of infants, only it's psychological rather than physical.
