Whereas for me, it's not unusual to run into wimen and children out foraging. Less so now, but growing up. All the land is owned, so you have permission to be out there.

You'd think when you ring someone up and ask if you can go foraging or what have you, they'd let you know if anyone else is out there. And they usually do.

So if you run across a strange man, and you didn't expect someone might be out there, you're likely dealing with poacher, a bootlegger, or a drug runner/grower.

Again, that's less of a problem now because marijuana can be legally grown in some states, which has killed the illicit business of it in other places.

I really am finding all the commentary fascinating.

I love how at first, most of them outside bear country, their reasoning was about expectations of being left alone.

It's disappointing but predictable how quickly butt hurt men made it about sexual assault. But the vitriol behind it was a little surprising. It's heartening that the response to that gaslighting has been both immediate, utilitarian, and phenomenal in brutal honesty.
