What’s wrong with this passage is that it’s interpreted to mean men should control women.
But it ignores how God works. When God asks you to do something, he does not force compliance. You can say no.
Mary could have said no.
Moses could have said no.
David could have said no.
Esther could have said no.
What is meant here is to trust your husband as you would trust the Lord to not let you come to harm.
The trust comes first. You abuse that trust, the next time the answer is no.
Even God held himself accountable to keeping his word and his promises, so that no one had reason to doubt when he asked for their trust.
Maybe a good follow up passage would have been:
Husbands, commit thyselves to being trustworthy in all matters before asking thy wife for thy trust so that thou might find thyself in grace with the Lord and in the favor of thy wife. Amen.
