Number one. They didn’t have showers back then and desert dwellers of that time wouldn’t have wasted water that way.

Number two. As a Jew, Jesus would have followed the appropriate display for the level of despair he felt that his message has been used to harbor pedophiles and murderers for centuries.

This calls for rending one’s clothes, pulling out one’s hair, and flinging ash over their head while wailing in despair.
