Well, you're being narrow minded about Star Wars, probably due to thinking about it only or overwhelmingly through a professional lens, because you're a writer, in other words.
One could write a dissertation or two singing the praises of Star Wars and still only cover the most basic highlights of all the awesome there.
In regards to Trump, it doesn't matter how intelligent his followers are when they are enthralled in a cult of personality. Most of them cannot articulate why they think Trump has done for them or why he's good for the country.
What they can and will tell you is he makes them feel better by denigrating someone else, some other group, the wrong people have been allowed to vote for too long, he's baby Jesus reincarnate, and even if he put an AR-15 in the hands of your 5 year old and commanded your child to slaughter "Mexican" children in their community, that would be acceptable, because he's baby Jesus come again and God's word is the only law that matters. The Bible advocates slaughtering non-believers and sinners. Or, they'll say that's a little extreme and he would never do that because of what a swell guy he is but IF he did, that would be okay, especially if they got some something from it because they can't stop it anyway.
Outside what you see on the news, this is what Trump supporters are saying on the streets and in the churches.
In the end, you can't really have good faith discussions with someone who is down for your annihilation.
And if you're a member of these targeted groups, what you're calling an "echo chamber" is a natural cloistering for protection against bullies. Youre not failing to liberal correctly to seek protection for yourself and your family from those who are signing off on your harm.
If YOU feel safe to engage with those people, from your place of safety btw, then by all means do so. Have at it. Give them hell. Try to change their minds. That would be awesome. Truly, I wish you the best of luck.
But none of us that are targets can. BECAUSE we are the targets. All we can do is protect ourselves and be do whatever we can to get them to back down, to realize that it will cost them more than what they think they're going to have to pay to continue this folly.
