Well, when you read ALL the words in the comment, it's very clear I was talking about divorces caused by severe or long term illness, not divorces in general. Like, you get cancer and your spouse divorces you. Right when you need them most.

That's what that section of the main article was about.

BTW, the Stanford study you referenced determined that nearly 70 % of divorces are initiated by women, not 80%. Nearly 70% means slightly less than 70%. Delving into that study, initiated means "took the first legal or physical steps for separation". It doesn't delineate who actually abandoned the vows of the marriage, like by cheating, abuse, or neglect; or even who just gave up first in cases or irreconcilable differences and the like.

It's as much or more another marker of who gets stuck doing all the work of running the household, even dissolving it, as it is a so called indictment of women not caring about marriage, abandoning "perfectly good" partners, or whatever self pitying flavor of the week the head bro has come up with for us all to enjoy.

To be clear, I'm not saying women are angels, women never cause divorce, or women are never legitimately the ones who just want out first. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

What I am saying is that the narrative surrounding that study being promoted by certain parties is conflated and becoming more and more ridiculous every time it gets repeated. Almost everyone mentioning it is only repeating propaganda at this point; propaganda increasingly detached from reality or common sense.
