Well....the word stoicism has morphed somewhat. In today's terms it means repression of all emotions except anger. We see how well that's worked out. [sarcasm].
During the age of the stoics, however, it meant you had emotions and you felt them in their entirety, but you didn't allow them to dictate your actions. In other words, you had emotions but you kept your feelings about those emotions in check to keep yourself on a logically and self directed path rather than being ruled and controlled by impulse.
