Well... let's put it this way. You only have direct control over yourself. You have influence over others. You have a modicum of control over organizing principles by your vote, your wallet, etc.

So if you're thinking you have no individual control to change things, you're right. You don't. That's why you feel that way. Only for yourself.

Collectively though, is a different story. But you have to embrace being part of the collective. You have to learn how to move and shift as a collective. That's a task, right?

So if you feel so hopeless when someone writes about collective action is that because you don't really want to function as a member of a collective or because you see it as too much work with too little reward or no guarantee of success?

What's the trigger to jump to hopelessness and how are you addressing it?
