It's interesting you should bring up Andrew Tate, I wrote another comment earlier today where I mentioned him too. The point I was making there applies well to this discussuon, even though in that one I was commenting about the MTG and Lauren Borebert cat fight on the Congressional floor.

I'll spare you the drama. The important part is a reference to an old saying made popular by Oscar Wilde. "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can give to greatness".

I was saying that even though we all know this saying means that copying someone is a compliment and there's a lot of truth there, when you think about it, it's also an admonishment to be careful and mindful about who or what you copy as that is who/what you label as greatness by that flattery and consequently label all the other options on the table as mediocre.

I ended with a line about how that was an admonishment man young men would have done well to here in regards to Andrew Tate.

It's true that Andrew Tate is a fraud, a grifter, a hack, and a liar. I'm not going to touch his alleged crimes, I'm just speaking to his content as an Influencer.

Good chance he's an actual sociopath too. He certainly checks more than a few boxes.

But sociopathy does not explain the draw. Less than 5% of the population are sociopaths. So, it's not accurate or a silutiom to place the blame of allure solely on Tate. He bragged about criminal activity multiple times and young.mebnate continuing to lap it up.

So is Tate the problem, or is he merely a beacon exposing some ideological rot that was already there?

I don't believe all these men were ignorant dupes. They were dupes but they also knew exactly what they were signing off on.

A moth gets lured to a big zapper because of an attraction to light inherent in the moth.

For men, it's not biologically inherent but it is ideologically foundational to define yourself as a man against what it is to be a woman or "feminine".

All these Influencers have tapped into one of ideological foundations of how we define ourselves and that's how they manipulate us. But.they wouldn't be able to if we didn't consistently invest in harmful belief strucrures.
