Well, it always tastes more like a banana to me than a mango. I love mangos.

They do have a tropical kind of taste to them, for sure. The texture is more like a mango. Definitely lighter tasting like a mango.

Grandma used to mix them with berries and make a kind of chutney out of them. I think that had pine nuts in it too. We’d have it on dinner biscuits. Grandma’s dinner biscuits were to die for. Silky. Melt in your mouth. Loaded up with preserves, gravy, or that chutney. MmmMmm.

But yeah. I guess I’d describe pawpaws as a soft, sweet, tropical tangy tasting banana.

The key is definitely to get them at the right time though. They’re like persimmons or plumgrannies like that. There’s some more Appalachian fruits for you. Muahahaha. Anyways, biting into one of those before they’re good and ripe is an experience you don’t soon forget. Think of a baby’s face the first time it tries unsweetened lemon and magnify by a factor of 100. Oh yeah.
