Well, both. Feminism wouldn't have arisen without Patriarchy. There will always be revolts of various sorts under systems of oppression.

Feminism and Patriarchy are entangled with sex and love however, and always will be. That kind of puts a different slant on things.

I do think it's relevant that Feminism didn't arrive until industrialization did (more or less) and with that the devaluation of women's work and so, their status.

It seems, reading old diaries and things, that Patriarchy was much more tolerable to more women during our pastoral years. You had a shared economic investment in the success of the family and everyone pitched in where and however it was needed and everyone knew the value of everyone else's contributions.

We clearly don't have that now. The value of work that gets done for the family's benefit, more often than not, it's out of sight, out of mind. It may as well not exist.

I think Patriarchy came about because of environmental upheaval that led us to cultivating grain crops for cash (barter). Once you have stationary resources, you have to protect them from someone else taking from them and thus, taking the economic value of your work. Now you've got ideas about property, which means it has to be passed down through inheritance because you don't live forever. Now you have to know who's kid is yours and who's kid isn't. Which means womrns sexuality has to be comwuwred and secured. Now you've got ideas about owning women as property. Well hey, if you can own women, why not other workers and get their labor too?

All these things came about from that upheaval. Solving one problem often creates another which must then be solved. Which creates another.....and so forth and so on.

But Patriarchy must end because by it's nature, it leads to excess and now we're in overshoot. My sincere belief is that if Patriarchy does not end, we will go extinct as human beings. We will not be able to make it through the upcoming population bottleneck under Patriarchy. We need a different skill set and a different value system.
