Up until the middle 1800s, the vast majority of teachers were male yet the entire curriculum was still based around sitting still. In fact, even fidgeting in the slightest could get you caned.

It seems like regardless of an instructor's gender, you can't really learn most of the things required to be an educated person when you're running around and screaming your head off.
