Ummm. You didn't debunk my point the way you think you did. You basically reiterated what I said. That American ignorance is due to failures of education and lack of balanced media coverage. That priorities for many of us are do I have a roof over my head? Can I put food on my table? Can I pay my bills? How can I improve my circumstances?
That takes priority over everything else.
But the author's stance is that Americans are ignorant because we're all racist.
Racism is a problem in the US, but this ignorance isn't attached to that. After all, many Black Americans are ignorant of the world. Are you suggesting it's because they're racist too? They're just as American as every other American. So are our Latino communities, our Indigenous communities, and our AAPI communities.
We're all American. We're all equally American under the Constitution now.
And American ignorance is ubiquitous in all American demographics.
So unless you're prepared to stand by the ridiculous notion that we're all racist and that causes this ignorance, you're going to have to look elsewhere for a cause. Like that we're not being educated of it well in the fiest place, exposure in our daily lives doesn't lead us to keeping up with the world (because even if you were well educated in school, the world changes so you have to keep up), and that other things like survival (for many of us) or obsession with work/money take focus. I grant you that not everyone is struggling, but the ones who aren't have the same poor work/life balance we all have.
