This was a great essay. I'd add the lure of an eternal reward as to why these women lean into Patriarchy.

I grew up amongst fundie evangelical faith traditions, though my family wasn't particularly religious. I've been to many of these churches.

One thing you notice is that these women tend to view submission as an endurance test in order to earn a ticket to heaven where their real husband, Jesus Christ is waiting for them. They will be loved and care for, for all eternity, IF they make it through this testing phase here on earth keeping to God's will.

Their earthly husbands are often little more than a means to an end. A trial to be endured. Kinda like Job. I've often hear Job mentioned to justify or sweep away reality whrn these husbands turn abusive.

These women are the real misandrists. They are also willing victims of Patriarchy. Still again, they are Patriarchy's overseers by demanding the rest of us (men and women) also submit to these insane belief structures that don't work.
