This was a great article Alison. As a fellow middle aged woman, I'm right there with you. Only with me, it's mostly religious recruiters to various churches at bus stops and transit centers. They make a bee line for me every time; my daughter thinks it's hilarious.
I think though, that we may see a decline in this sort of thing. Social media and the internet allows for charity workers to collect money directly and bypass all the middle man grifting and shitfuckery that has so long and unfortunately been a part of charity work..
I'm seeing it a lot in wildlife and other animal charity work.
