This isn't a fiction. This is happening now.

One of my neighbors is going hungry and flirting with eviction. He's borrowing money from everyone week to week. If he can't keep a roof over his head, he loses visitation with his kids. He's lost 30 or 40 lbs. He's working, but is having a hard time holding down a job too. He had a traumatic brain injury working construction that, of course, insurance dodged paying for. I don't know all the particulars.

There was an article yesterday on my news feed about how thousands of people are living on the streets of LA in RV campers. Picture showed what looked like a residential street lines with old, beat up RVs that looked 20+ years old for the most part.
