This is so true. And it’s everywhere now. The hoops you have to jump through to get a minimum wage job are ridiculous. Personality tests, drug tests, multiple interviews as described, assessments (basically for morality), credit and background checks, and now when you apply for a job via the internet you have to give you phone and email BEFORE you can view the job and they sell it to marketing companies.

I’m still getting robo-calls and spam email from my last job search. During that search, I ran across one job that signed you up with one of those monthly subscription scams to APPLY for a job.

And then they want us to be as excited as a Labrador with a tennis ball. About bagging groceries. About serving coffee. About flipping burgers. About Sprawl-Mart. About Amazon. About moving data. About running a register. About stocking shelves.

About any full repetitive task for the absolute bare minimum compensation they can get away with. And let’s face it, full and repetitive applies to almost every job there is now.

Thanks, but no thanks. I’m here for the money. To take care of my family. Not for employer amusement. So I’ll be over here with all the other hounds, stretched across the porch, excited about sleeping.

Fetch your own damned ball.

I’ll save my excellence for something that matters more for the benefit of me and my family.
