This is a powerful article. I could relate to a lot in it, even the pseudocyesis. Though in my case it was a focus on what I didn’t want and what I dreaded and was being pressured for and NOT because it was my desire.

Motherhood is definitely a trap in this country. There’s no where near enough structural support for it not to be. Anyone cam see this. Many mothers feel this whether they want and/or have children or not.

It doesn’t have to be though. There are lots of answers there, big and small. For example, not penalizing a mini retirement for women to have children. Since women live longer than men anyway, what if women took 5 years off to have children, was supported by money paid by SSI, and then went back to work once their child(ren) started kindergarten or were in preschool? Then, instead of retiring at 65, the retirement age for women could be 70.

It makes better sense for a woman’s life cycle. Retirement planning is designed around a man’s life cycle.

There are plenty of small shifts in thinking that could go a long way on this issue.
