There's way to much here to unpack but I'll say this about porn and gaming.
Think about them like food for your mental and emotional diet.
Now work an analogy.
You might like Ramen and chocolate too. There's nothing completely horrible about either one. They'll keep you from starving to death, they're quick and easy calories, and in the case of chocolate, dark chocolate is high in Mg, a trace mineral women are often low in. There's a reason why we crave it, yeah?
That said, if that's all you ever eat, it's not long before you're going to be malnourished. Your body is meant for and needs more than what Ramen and chocolate can provide. You're going to suffer the effects of imbalance, or malnutrition.
And so will the people around you, because now you're not contributing. You're causing extra work. Having to tend to or cater to your special needs because you won't eat anything but Ramen and chocolate is stealing from another's life and will continue to do so until they get tired of enabling your poor diet.
It's the same thing. Gaming is fine. But gaming 24/7 steals from those you live with and robs you more than you want to admit. Same with porn. A steady mental and emotional diet of porn and gaming leave you mentally and emotionally malnourished and codependent on an enabler, if you can find one willinf to give up their life and/or wellbeing enough to carry you.
Granted, it's been a while since I've read Katz's book, but I recall him being very clear on that point. That it's the amount, the steady diet at the exclusuon of a better, more well rounded 'diet' that's the problem there.
