There is evidence. Anecdotal evidence.
Should she publish in a scientific journal and make claims as an expert?
No. But that’s not what she did.
Medium is a writer’s platform. It does not require the scrutiny of a scientific or scholarly journal. It doesn’t need to. Nor should anyone else with a lick of good sense ever give it that much weight. Or claim that someone else is simply for posting what is clearly an opinion essay.
That said, anecdotal evidence is not meaningless or worthless. As I said, it’s the start of investigation. It’s the reporting of a problem.
When you’re talking about public health, people have an obligation to report their observations, especially when health and government institutions are claiming different. That’s how things get done and reevaluated.
What the govt and those institutions have been saying is what most often happens with viruses being introduced into a population. Nobody is trying to whip up a panic or claim the government is trying to kill everyone.
Most often is not the same as always. Things aren’t going the way they most often do with the new emergent virus. They’re different. We need to start getting a handle on long Covid and what happens after multiple infections. That starts with people reporting what’s going on with them. Anecdotally.
Given the politicization around masks and vaccines, that also means writing about our experiences. They aren’t matching what we’ve been told to expect. We do have an obligation to each other as citizens, you know.
This isn’t a Boogeyman story designed to make people live in perpetual fear of something that isn’t real.
It’s kind of rich, trotting out the old charge of "hysteria" on a perfectly rational and sensible article when you’re the one insisting we all stick our heads in the sand like an ostrich who has completely lost his head.
Gotta wonder what your deal is.
You stick your head in the sand if you want, but leave other folks alone to write and read what they want. We’re just as smart as you are, we can think things through on our own just fine and make our own determinations.
