There actually was an English peoples on the maonland before this, but they weren't in Virginia. They came north, up through Aztec territory after landing there. They were also absorbed into Indigenous cultures rather than colonizing.

They were Welsh, a youngest son, a prince, fleeing to escape fratricide. Landed in the Americas, were given si or seven Aztec women and travelled up and through southeast North America and eventually became the Mandan tribe.

It's an interesting story. There was a Roman coin found with a 7 ft tall skeleton in a cave in the the Scottsboro AL area that is believed to be a decendant of that original group.
