The Walmarts and Amazons of the world are part of the problem too. As the author pointed out, benefit acceptance requires work in most states.

Many people on food stamps work at places that don’t pay them a living wage and strip them of dignity and health care access. Then those businesses don’t pay taxes. They exploit the communities they build in and exploit the people who work in them. The whole community is degraded.

Cooperatives and Not-For-Profits bring vibrancy back to the community. Anyone who has the opportunity to shop at these places should make a point to.
