The thing about identities is it's less about who you are and more about what others perceived you as and what you deserve out of life, are responsible for in life, and how you are allowed to go through life based on that hierarchy.

The higher the inequality, the more this comes into play.

There's no getting around it without severely limiting and checking or outright dismantling that hierarchy.
