The second one. I think the number of people.who actually want and have always desired to have children is actually low. Most of us, when we're young ourselves, really weren't too fussed about it, it was just something that older people asked and harrangued you about. There were a few who were adamantly opposed and a few who had baby fever at 10. Same with the boys, more or less. I think there were slightly more adamantly opposed and slighy less fondly thinking about being a dad at an early age.
So after a life time of older people constantly up in your grill about it, you just reachrd adulthood and it was one of the steps. You didn't really think about not having any as an option and those few who did were pretty much shunned and comsidered abnormal.
There was a lot of pressure on the generstions directly after WWII to rebuild the population. In hindsight, too much pressure. We'd be better off if there were fewer of us.
