They count on not being attacked because they're women. Even other women are generally hampered by the "cat fighting" trope. If you push past it, they'll claim victim.

And to your point, you're right, you don't need to know the why's of why someone wants you dead or subjugated in order to put a stop to it. But women get hung up on why people are the way they are. This is our curiosity and desire to understand others working against us.
