The definition of the word responsibility is no where near the definition of the word property. I'm not confused or caught up on a particular word. Yet, as the article and your comment pointed out, many parents do consider their children property. They parent and interact in their children's lives based on that premise. It's not just a philosophical issue, either. It has real world consequences for all of us.
As for responsibility ....
Well. We are not paper cutout dolls. We are fully fleshed, 3 dimensional, nuanced beings who's lives are multi-faceted. We exist as an individual, as part of a family, as part of a community, as a member of a nation, and as a citizen of the world.
As such, obviously.....
We have responsibility both to and for each of the facets of our beings or lives. And it all has to more or less balance out and be reciprocated in more or less equal measure in turn. Otherwise, we start to fall into problems. Like our example of the child, the school, and the family.
