The bride's family is supposed to plan and host the wedding too. That's because they're the ones paying for it. Ergo, the minute the groom and his family inserted themselves into choosing things for the wedding, thus breaking with tradition, they also chose to pay for the thing too. In this case, they should pay for the whole thing because clearly none of the wedding fluff means that much to you.
I'm the same way, so I've always hated that tradition. I think it would be better if the brides family was responsible for the honeymoon and the groom's family was responsible for the wedding. It would probably destroy both industries, but that's probably a good thing.
