Nevertheless, many people voted for Trump as a vote against socialism because the Biden campaign failed to adequately respond to the charge in a way that middle America, deep south, and older voters could grasp ahold of.

It doesn’t matter if it was true or not. It matters that they believed it was true. Or believed there was enough chance it was true to run screaming in the other direction.

It was a negative vote choice. It says, “Hey Trump’s an ass and he’s causing too much divisiveness and chaos but it’s a better choice than socialism! That would be THE END!”

This shouldn’t be hard to understand. It’s the right’s equivalent to “4 more years of Trump would be THE END. Literally anyone but Trump.” line of thinking coming from the left.
