That's simplistic. What about all the times when God called for the destruction of humans using human agents?
Did he not command Abraham to murder his own son? The fact that an angel prevented the execution doesn't negate that the fact that God required it of Abraham.
When God calls for witches and adulterers to be stones to death, did you think the stones hurled themselves?
Did God not call for the complete destruction of the Canaanites and the Amekelites? Every man, woman, and child?
Looks like there are exceptions.
