That's kind of a circular argument Anthony.

I think everyone, women included, want a basic level of safety to be the default.

But, hands down the bulldog violence that women face comes from men. We're not assaulting each other. We're also not assaulting men. The fact that men also assault each other and more likely to be a victim of violence doesn't negate the fact that men are the problem for women.

While we may want a standard level of safety for everyone, the reality is that until men find another way to define themselves outside the context of who they are to women (either "positively" or negatively) then women will need a certain level of protection from men.

You're mistaken to think that the safety will naturally arise from doing away with protection from men.

I will agree, however, that we need to rethink the protection. To date, it IS geared too much around Stranger Danger or the weirdo guy in a dark alley. That needs to change.
